Medical Challenges in North East State
May 14
There are 7 states in north east India, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Nagaland, Mizoram and Tripura. These states are called Sister States. Since the north eastern part of the country is still underdeveloped, there is political and ethnic violence. Also the difficult terrain makes necessary development and health services inaccessible. Due to prevalent illiteracy and unemployment there are issues of drug addiction and alcoholism. Communicable diseases such as AIDs, Malaria and Tuberculosis are very common.
The following are the main causes of medical issues and challenges in North East India:
- Due to climatic conditions and unfavorable situations, doctors and medical help reach late even in case of emergency
- Since the states are underdeveloped, so the education system is not as advanced to offer good professional courses. Thus local medical professionals are not well prepared
- Due to tradition and isolation, there is a wide range of ethnic groups who are addicted to drugs and alcohol
- Ignorance and illiteracy make it difficult to deal with deadly diseases like AIDs and HIV, and prevent people from visiting a doctor
- No good hospitals or specialized doctors are easily available
- Approximately half of the population is below the poverty level; so it is very difficult for them to afford costly medicines and medical treatments
- The food habits and the dietary conditions are not so good; that leads to improper nutrition and less healing capability of body
- Even if they have to refer to other hospitals in different cities; their conditions do not allow them to travel or afford the cost
To deal with these medical issues following preventive measure must be taken:
- First and foremost, education should be provided to everyone to make them aware of health problems and their solutions
- Medical facilities such as medical stores, hospitals, doctors and nurses should be made available to common people
- People should be taught about difference between myths and reality related to health.
- Preventive measures must be improved and imposed
Government should take measures to introduce vaccination to prevent children from harmful diseases
