Personalized tutoring is a one to one interaction. Hence the tutor can easily understand the needs of the student and accordingly teach the student.

What are the issues personalized tutoring addresses? Sometimes in school/college students find some of the subjects difficult to handle. This could be because the student grasping power is poor, teacher not explaining things at the level of the student or student has missed classes due to some illness. In this case the personal tutor is able to understand the difficulties the student is facing and explain concepts to the student in the way he or she can grasp it.

Also sometimes students are shy and not confident of asking questions in the classroom. With the tutor such inhibitions won’t be there and they will be free to ask any queries. Tutoring also enables the student to be more disciplined and makes them adhere to a fixed routine. Sometimes the parents are not able to guide the students in their studies and hence may not have an idea of the difficulties the student is facing in studies. Also students may not heed to the advice of the parents with respect to discipline in studies. The tutor forces them to follow a regime which makes the students put the required effort and time.

How does one know if a student needs personalized tutoring? When the grades of the student start falling and they are not able to cope with their studies, assignments and home work. In many cases, it is seen that student’s performance improves a lot after tutoring. Their grades improve and they are more confident to deal with the subject.

There could be a down side to tutoring. The concepts taught by the tutor could be in a way different from that taught in class. Or the method used to solve mathematical problems could be different. This may cause some confusion in the minds of students. Also you need to properly assess the credentials of the tutor before employing them. If they are not able to cater to the student’s needs it may turn out to be a waste of money.

Thus in most of the cases it is seen that personalized tutoring has been successful. Thus it is a big business today. Under graduate students take to tutoring school children, earning some extra money which they can save.
