Are You a Good Teacher?
Jun 13
We all have been students at some stage of our life or are still gathering knowledge from our learned teachers. But, to those of us who are imparting this knowledge to students in one way or another—are we delivering enough and substantive to our students? Well, if you too are a tutor in a school, college or university, what makes you think that you have been able to become an ideal for your students? Here is an opinion on me or you becoming a good teacher if not ideal, and you would surely have something to add or say to it. According to some personal experiences, a good teacher would be one whom students always cherish and get inspired from, even when they move out of their student life.
You would have observed students who pass out from institutions and come to greet their teachers after long-long years. It’s not because of any selfish reasons, but it’s because they forever remain influenced by the engaging personality of their teachers. Students greatly appreciate such teachers who leave a positive impact on their lives, including and apart from their regular teacher-student relationship. It’s a personal thought that to be a successful teacher, one should hold the attention of students while also maintaining the required discipline in the class. This should be done to motivate and promote the right behavior of students. A teacher is more effective if he/she sets clear objectives for students to work toward as it offers a direction to students’ initiatives.
Teachers who can manage their classes well can instill positive habits for studying, as well as a sense of mutual respect among students. If you as a teacher can communicate your expectations and feedback to students in a proper manner, half of your work gets done. Further, you should try and maintain a good communication with your students and their parents. It would help you develop trust and a strong rapport with students. The rest of the work gets done by your own knowledge and enthusiasm about teaching. If you know your work well and have excellent knowledge of your subject, your students would always appreciate that and see you as someone they too should follow. Your passion can greatly determine if your students would also come back after years and share their experiences with you!
