Principles of escalating health education

Nowadays society has accepted ‘health education’ as a necessary discipline for all, but then also the knowledge provided to students must be acceptable to the local people of the society. Some of the essential principles of health education are given below:

1. Should build Interest:
Health education should be taught interestingly. Effective teaching takes place when your teaching techniques are impressive that can develop the interest in the learners regardless of their choices. This can also increase active participation of the students.

2. Subject classification:
Subjects of education must be classified according to the age group. Topic suitable for higher secondary students is complicated for elementary students such as- Aids, Cancer etc. Classifying the topics accordingly can enable students and teachers to work properly on their ends.

3. Improves communication:
The language used to teach health education to students should be understandable for all so that better discussion will take place among all and students can quickly make their doubts clear. When students can communicate with each other about their queries better understanding of the topics takes place.

4. Should be based on important topics:
Health education must include all the required subjects. Due to this health programmes of schools contains issues like personal hygiene, communicable disease, first/aid, etc. They majorly focus on childhood and adolescent needs.

5. Aids teaching should be mandatory:
Teaching aids through audio/visual ad’s or illustrative materials with proper explanations prefered to be the best way to teach Aids, and leads to better and interesting learning in students.

6. Personal attention should be given:
Some situation may not allow easily adopting healthy habits. Therefore, active health educational process should take place when personal attention can be given to the same person. Punishing students should be strictly restricted regardless of the reasons.

7. Systematic and Continues efforts:
Systematic and continues health programmes are considered more fruitful than unsystematic and non-continuous programmes. When we put efforts for anything in a non-stop and perfectly managed manner, they induce positivity and attraction amongst individuals.

8. Should be socially Accepted:
In many educational organisations, health education contains the knowledge of ‘sex education’, and many times it is protested by a lot of people as they think that this topic is ‘non-educational’.
Topics like- Aids, Hepatitis-B are equally important and should be taught in an unbiased way. Therefore, health educators need to progress in spreading knowledge on such essential issues.
