How to Ensure That You Never Get That Promotion?

Oct 09

Have you been promoted? If yes, then congratulations and if not, there’s a long road out of Eden!

Of course you’ve been working with your sweat and blood, just so that there’s a fat pay check waiting for you every month-end and your manager takes you as one of the most go-to employees in the office arena. But before moving any further, ponder over the fact, why all this?

promotion

There must be a reason that you’re pushing in every modicum of effort and making things happen at work. Yes, an appraisal it is, the only way to lead yourself on the path of planned career progression.  It’s quite obvious that you have been boggling your head over the right hacks to follow. Save yourself the effort and drop a glance below. Taking it on a lighter note, here are things that will never let you get promoted. Smart people pick the hint at finger’s snap, don’t they?

Ask for Everything at Once

This is one of the foremost mistakes committed by employees round the globe. Make sure that you ask for everything in your mind, be it a pay raise, higher incentives, an appraisal in post and target flexibility, in a single instance. Not only will this frustrate your boss, but will also demonstrate you as one of the most delusional and greedy employees in the company. Try for yourself and see the result!

Be Completely Dramatic

Securing a desirable job for sure took a lot on your part, but getting an appraisal is just a matter of a few wits. So, how do you begin? Yes, by letting the dramatic you coming out in the meeting room. Forget the fact that it’s an office and you have to work with different personalities. Start complaining and whining every now and then, to let the boss know how much pain you’ve undergone and how badly you need this promotion.

Why spare the boss of your drama and cribbing nature! This will surely push you further away from that appraisal, any incentive left aside.

Never Work on the Skills That Pertain to the New Role

If you have been living with the misconception that only the skills necessary to your current job role will get you a pay hike, then you surely are on the right path. To state the truth, success in one area doesn’t guarantee to translate into another. But, obviously you seem quite confident with the initial idea. Make sure you’re dragging yourself on the skills learned earlier only. New skills will obviously vouch for a promoting decision in your favor and who wants that!

Don’t Show Ownership in Your Actions

It would really be great when you constantly claim to be a team player and fret over small disputes with your colleagues. Not only this, but make sure that you never own up to your mistakes or practice anything claimed as your skills or quality.

Complain about your role and keep making promises that are never in cognizance with the reality. Of course, this would only make you a step closer to the appraisal and you don’t want that.

Be Clueless About Solutions

The Wrong Way: You come up with possible ideas and solutions that might solve the problem. Plus, you also take initiatives to re-do things in a better way.

The Right Way: Come whining with a problem that you’ve been facing for the past few months and don’t even try to find a solution to the same.

Needless to say that all you need is to be clueless about the situation and keep reporting problems. The boss will make sure that you never get that promotion letter.

By now, you might have got the gist of the whole situation. Think it over deeply and take steps that not only get you promoted, but make you a successful professional in the long run as well.
