Tips To Crack CAT
Jun 04
The CAT, better known as the Common Admission Test, has been rated as one of the most competitive examinations in the world, not only because of the hundreds of thousands of candidates who appear every year, but also because of the fact that the examination as a whole is a tough one. The range of questions and their relative difficulty as compared to many other examinations makes it one of the toughest tests to crack. However, here are some tips which will prove to be helpful when the time comes to bell the CAT.
a) One of the toughest sections in the CAT is the Quantitative Aptitude section which is filled with questions related to arithmetic and algebra. However, what most people try to do is to go through the exercises given in the exercise books that they are consulting. However, the best way forward should be to try and go back to the old mathematics books from high school which would give one a much more basic understanding of the subject and help refresh the memory.
b) Next is the DI and LR section which has made many students perplexed over the years due to the unfathomable nature of the questions. The trick about this section is practice, practice and more practice. No amount of formulaic memorising will help when it comes to this section. According to most CAT toppers, practice is the only thing that can help the candidates in this section but simply going through thousands of problems won’t help because chances are they would not make it to the original question paper.
c) The section on English language calls for scrupulous knowledge and demands the candidate to have a huge pool of vocabulary to use from. In this regard it must be said, that the best way to enhance one’s English language proficiency is to make sure that one reads more than one English language newspaper on a daily basis and notes down any word that he may not have come across. Later on, one should consult the dictionary to find out the exact meaning. The more one reads the more one will have a chance of faring well in this section.
These are the principal sections that one should focus on in CAT and if any candidate follows these tips then he is surely going to be in a good position to fare well in the test.
